As the window for climate action narrows, the global conversation has shifted from why we must reduce greenhouse gas emissions in individual portfolios to how fast we can achieve a low carbon economy.

That’s what prompted the creation of the GIIN’s Climate Solutions Investing Initiative to help mobilize capital toward the most effective climate solutions investment strategies. Because, truthfully – not all solutions are equally meaningful. The initiative aims to equip asset owners with tools and guidance to identify and engage with investment strategies that are most capable of achieving global climate goals. It also seeks to improve market understanding so investors can act quickly on science-aligned priorities across sectors, geographies, asset classes and maturities of companies.

“There is a real need for more transparency and alignment in how we assess climate solutions strategies. We are excited to contribute to a peer-driven effort that helps investors sharpen their approaches and learn from each other.”

- Kelley Luyken, Fund Investor & Impact Lead, Aurum Impact

Having launched the Climate Solutions Investing Framework in June 2025, the GIIN is now launching a working group that will contribute to the ongoing evolution of the framework and help participants learn about solutions investing strategies through peer exchanges. Working group participants will:

  • Help improve a tool that will enhance the effectiveness and responsiveness of climate solutions investing across the industry.

  • Serve as early users and contributors to the framework, learning from and working with peers to ensure the framework is practical, scalable and useful for asset owners.

  • Apply the framework to different use cases by reviewing an existing manager strategy or assessing past or future allocations of capital towards climate solutions.

  • Convene with and learn from a diverse network of asset owners, including pension funds, insurers, sovereign wealth funds, foundations and family offices.

The Climate Solutions Practitioners Working Group currently has 28 participants across Asia, Australia, Europe and the U.S., some of which include:

  • Blink Impact

  • Capricorn

  • Englewood Capital

  • Tsao Family Office

  • Soros Economic Development Fund

  • Aurum Impact

  • Brunel

  • Cathay Financial Holdings

  • Tripple

“Participating in the working group will strengthen our ability to assess and support credible climate solutions with real-world impact, while learning from peers and contributing to a framework that could be more widely adopted across the industry.”

- Wiep van Eck, Impact Associate, Blink Impact

Participation in the working group offers both a learning journey and a chance to contribute to a broadly applicable approach for identifying and prioritizing credible, pathway-aligned climate solutions investment strategies.

Participants will play a pivotal role in refining the Climate Solutions Investing Framework, ultimately helping to enhance the effectiveness and agility of investment strategies across the sector. They will also have an opportunity to deepen their capacity to differentiate and assess climate solutions investing strategies and insights into how other industry peers approach solutions investing.

"I look forward to connecting with other investors through the GIIN’s Global Climate Solutions Initiative and discussing ways to effectively deploy capital towards high-impact climate solutions."

- Matt Severson, Founder and Managing Partner, Englewood Capital

As an output of the meetings, the GIIN will prepare an overview of summary insights from the process. Organizations will be anonymized and meetings will be held under the Chatham House Rule. However, all participants will have the option to contribute to a case study, enabling peer visibility and public engagement opportunities.
