Nick O’Donohoe, shares an overview of Big Society Capital’s achievements to date at their five year mark, as well as the challenges that lie ahead for the industry. He explores how the organization, together with the UK government, has created a new market to support non-profits. He explains how Big Society Capital aims to serve two functions for the impact investment movement—to act as a capital provider and as a market champion. Some of the achievements of the organization that he identifies include: helping to transform the impact investment market in the UK, encouraging the UK government to develop policies and grant programs that will support the market, introducing the first tax relief program in the world that targets impact investment, and working to enable a greater flow of social impact bonds (SIBs) and other pay-for-success initiatives in the UK.
