Village Capital is a seed stage venture capital firm that finds, trains, and funds early-stage ventures solving major global problems in agriculture, education, energy, financial inclusion, and health. VilCap Investments, LLC is its affiliated, managed for-profit investment fund that invests in the top peer-ranked company of each program. The programs employ a peer-selection model, in which the entrepreneurs themselves choose the companies in the program who receive the pre-committed investments of around $50,000. As of April 2015, there have been over 35 programs in nine countries, and its 450+ graduates have raised over $110 million in follow-on capital and created 7,000 jobs.
Washington, D.C.-based VilCap Investments, part of venture capital firm Village Capital, has raised a $17.7 million fund from 29 investors including Steve and Jean Case to continue investing in social enterprise startups around the world. Our board members include Jim Sorenson of Sorenson Capital, Jeff Woodward of Taylor, English, Duma LLC, Kelly Michel of Potencia Ventures, Donna Byrd of The Washington Post, and Bryce Butler of Access Ventures.
